When it comes to the history of billiards, it is long, rich and full of colors. The game has been played by many including royals, commoners, presidents, ladies, gentlemen, and many more. Initially played as a lawn game sometime in Northern Europe and perhaps France during the era of the 15th century, and later on, the game was moved indoors on a wooden table with a cover of green cloth giving an impression of grass with the simple border around the boundaries. The word “billiard” has been originated from French.

Today, billiards is a game which is not just popular in England but all over the world. Every year, many tours and leagues are conducted by various national and international authorities where thousands and thousands of pool players from around the world participate.

  1. WPA World Nine-ball Championship

Sanctioned by World Pool-Billiard Association (WPA), the WPA World Nine-ball Championship is a yearly and international nine-ball pool tournament, which was started in the year 1990. In the March of the year 1990, the first WPA World Nine-ball Championship was played in Bergheim of Germany. This tournament is chiefly sponsored and organized by Matchroom Sport. It is organized in three main categories, and it is being held in Doha in Qatar since the ear 2010.

  1. WPA World Ten-ball Championship

Authorized by the World Pool-Billiard Association, i.e. WPA, the WPA World Ten-ball Championship is a ten-ball pocket billiards tournament where many professional billiard players participate. The first ever WPA World Ten-Ball Championship was organized in Philippine International Convention Center in Manila and the total winning amounts were the US $400,000. The tournament was held in 2008, between September 29 and October 5. A total of 128 players participated from 44 different countries.

  1. WPA World Eight-ball Championship

The WPA World Eight-ball Championship is held by WPA, also known as World Pool-Billiard Association. It is an eight-ball billiards tournament, which was initially organized by Ahmed Ibrahim and Mithaq Jalali in Fujairah. Then for the next couple of years, the tournament was not held anywhere in the world. However, in 2017, this tournament returned in the Olympic center in Jinan, China, where a total of 64 contestants participated with winning prizes over $200,000.

  1. APA World Pool Championships

Organized by APA, or American Poolplayers Association, the APA World Pool Championship is the largest pool tournament of the world. These pool tournaments are the kind of finale of weekly basis league play by APA which are held at the Westgate Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. This championship includes the 8-Ball World Championship, 9-Ball World Championship, Ladies 8-Ball Championship, Masters Championship, Jack & Jill Championship, and MiniMania events.

  1. APA Poolplayer Championships

APA Poolplayer Championship was held from April 25 to 29, in 2018, in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is the culmination of separate games played by individuals. The event comprises of the 9-ball shootout and 8-Ball Classic and 9-Ball Shootout which are held in combination with the APA Poolplayer Championships in Las Vegas. In addition, there are also the Wheelchair, 8-Ball Doubles, and 9-Ball Doubles Championships, along with the events of MiniMania.

  1. U.S. Amateur Championship

For 2017, this championship was held from November 8 to 12, 2017 in Tampa, Florida. This tournament is organized to give an opportunity to novices and other pool players who do not have the skills of a professional pool player. It is an opportunity for them to show their skills at one of the most prominent amateur championships. It will also give the amateur pool players a chance to play at the highest level. This championship was inaugurated in the year 1994 and the competition level keeps on improving in every tournament. In 2018, it is to be held in Palm Harbor, Florida from November 7 to 11.

  1. APA Junior Championships

For 2018, the APA Junior Championship was held from July 5 to July 8 at Renaissance Airport Hotel in St. Louis, Missouri. It is a 9-Ball tournament is where all the active members and players of APA between the ages of 7 and 18 can participate. The event was inaugurated in 2014, and before 2018, it was held in Davenport in Iowa.

  1. IPA Premiere League

IPA stands for International Professional Pool Association. IPA Premiere league is organized by this association and the best pool players in the United Kingdom participate in this tournament to become the Professional Premier League Champion.  This IPA tournament is acknowledged as the professional blackball pool tournament by the World Pool Association or WPA. Every year, the IPA organizes the five-event series touring across the UK. This tour is also organized to promote IPA to the rest of the world.

  1. IPA World Pool Championship

The IPA World Pool Championship has been intended to find the best pool player in the world.  If you want to compete against the best in the world, this championship is the place for you. This tournament offers some big prize money and exposure to a wide array of audience. Many events take place in this championship and you can enter any event you want that you are eligible for. It is operated by a group of professional tournament supervisors and referees who have years of experience between them.

  1. World Eightball Pool Championship

The World Eightball Pool Championship is organized by World Eightball Pool Federation. It is held every year and comprises of open, women’s, and juniors’ categories. This tournament is held on a regular basis at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool in England. Europe, Australia, and South Africa participate in this tournament.

  1. WPBA Grand Slam Event

WPBA Grand Slam Event is organized by Women’s Professional Billiard Association or WPBA. In 2018, this event was organized at Soaring Eagle Casino from January 3 to January 7. The WPBA is the official body of women’s professional billiards in the U.S.A, and it is also one of the oldest women’s professional sports establishments in the world. It was initiated in the year 1976.
